Certification summary
CISCO Certified Network Professional (CCNP) validates the ability to plan, implement, verify and troubleshoot local and wide-area enterprise networks and work collaboratively with specialists on advanced security, voice, wireless and video solutions. The CCNP certification is appropriate for those with at least one year of networking experience who are ready to advance their skills and work independently on complex network solutions. Candidates for the CCNP certification need to pass three exams, the 642-902, 642-813 and the 642-832.

The CISCO: CCNP Training Package is the latest generation in Cisco technology and as such there is no current retirement plan for its exams. Below is a breakdown of the exams for this certification and how they are made up.
(ROUTE): 642-902
This exam measures your ability to accomplish the technical tasks listed:
- Implement an EIGRP Based Solution, given a Network Design and a set of Requirements
- Implement a Multi-Area OSPF Network, given a Network Design and a set of Requirements
- Implement an eBGP Based Solution, given a Network Design and a set of Requirements
- Implement an IPv6 Based Solution, given a Network Design and a set of Requirements
- Implement an IPv4 or IPv6 Based Redistribution Solution, given a Network Design and a set of Requirements
Implementing Cisco IP Routing (ROUTE): 642-902
The CCNP is made up of three exams, the 642-902 ROUTE, 642-813 SWITCH and 642-832 TSHOOT. With each exam taking around 120 to 140 minutes.
The ROUTE 642-902 exam will certify that you have the knowledge and skills necessary to use advanced IP addressing and routing in implementing scalable and secure Cisco ISR routers connected to LANs and WANs. The exam also covers configuration of secure routing solutions to support branch offices and mobile workers.
- 1.0 Implement an EIGRP Based Solution, given a Network Design and a set of Requirements (25%)
- Determine network resources needed for implementing EIGRP in a network
- Create an EIGRP implementation plan
- Create an EIGRP verification plan
- Configure EIGRP routing
- Verify EIGRP solution was implemented properly using show and debug commands
- Document the results of EIGRP implementation and verification
- 2.0 Implement a Multi-Area OSPF Network, given a Network Design and a set of Requirements (25%)
- Determine network resources needed for implementing OSPF on a network
- Create an OSPF implementation plan
- Create an OSPF verification plan

Implementing Cisco IP Switched Networks (SWITCH): 642-813
The CCNP is made up of three exams, the 642-902 ROUTE, 642-813 SWITCH and 642-832 TSHOOT. With each exam taking around 120 to 140 minutes.
The SWITCH 642-813 exam will certify you have important knowledge and skills necessary to plan, configure and verify the implementation of complex enterprise switching solutions using Cisco's Campus Enterprise Architecture. The SWITCH exam also covers secure integration of VLANs, WLANs, voice and video into campus networks.
- 1.0 Implement VLAN Based Solution, given a Network Design and a set of Requirements (50%)
- Determine network resources needed for implementing a VLAN based solution on a network
- Create a VLAN based implementation plan
- Create a VLAN based verification plan
